Support the gut before it becomes critical.
An unstable gut flora endangers vitality, growth, and entire litters. Early stabilization protects the development of every lamb.
Why diarrhea in lambs is dangerous
Lambs are small and have minimal reserves. Diarrhea quickly leads to dehydration. The sooner action is taken, the better.
Fluid loss
Lambs dehydrate rapidly. Circulation and organs come under stress.
Electrolyte loss
Essential minerals are lost. The lamb becomes weak and lethargic.
Growth arrest
Nutrients are not absorbed. Development stalls.
Why Digestive Disorders Occur
In practice, several factors work together. Three causes are particularly common.
1
Poor colostrum supply
If colostrum is missing or inadequate, the gut remains unprotected – the first immune defense is absent.
2
Feeding management
Incorrect temperature, too rapid transition, or hygiene errors disrupt the balance in the gut.
3
Infection pressure
Pathogens attack the immature gut. The risk is highest in the first weeks.
A stable gut flora determines
growth and vitality.
